Each Hollywood producer has one ambition in mind when they make a motion picture. They want to put out a film that is a giant sensation that the public loves. A terrific story line, some exceptional actors along with a couple of special effects and there you have the formula for a huge box-office success. Or do you? Sometimes a movie will have all of the alleged essential aspects and it will still fall short at the box office. There are no sure recipes to make a Hollywood hit.

Down to Earth - Homer Croy's continuation to "They had to See Paris" has nouveau riche Midwesterner Rogers setting an end to his family's mindless investing by affirming that he's broke. Not one of Will Roger's best film attempts. Cast includes Can Rogers, Irene Opulent, Dorothy Jordan, and Mary Carlisle. (73 minutes,'32)

The Last Time I Saw Archie - Webb's lone try at comedy is less comical than some of his more serious films; a shame, since William Bowers' script-based on his own Army experiences had legitimate potential, and Mitchum agreeably underplays as the con guy. By the way, the genuine Archie Chamber sued for invasion of privacy. Cast includes Robert Mitchum, Jack Webb, Martha Hyer, France Nuyen, Louis Nye, Richard Arlen, Don Tangles, Joe Flynn, and Robert Strauss. (98 minutes,'61)

My Son the Hero - Grand film in regards to sinister Emperor Cadmus of Thebes, who challenges the lords and faces the fury of the Titans. Cast includes Pedro Armendariz, Jacqueline Sassard, Antonella Lualdi, and Giuliano Gemma. (122 minutes,'62)

Sexy Beast - A retired British gangster, living the life in Spain, is visited by a violent gangster who wants him to work one more heist. Trendy, aggressive, current day gangster's film has excellent acting containing a special performance by Kingsley as the wicked perpetrator. Cast includes Ray Winstune, Ben Kingsley, Ian McShane, Cavan Kendall, Julianne White, Alvaro Monje, and James Fox. (88 minutes, 2001)

Scandalous - Featherbrained deception in regards to investigative Television journalist who runs afoul of a team of con artists as he tries to disentangle himself from a homicide charge. Cast includes Robert Hays, John Giegud, Pamela Stephenson, and Jim Dale. (94 minutes,'84)

Rude Boy - Angry youthful insurgent Gange is employed by the rock group The Conflict as a roadie. The film is an aggressive, practical, documentary-like personality exploration with phenomenal footage. Rock fans will not be let down, others take heed. Cast includes David Mingay, The Conflict, Ray Gange, John Green, Barry Baker, Terry McQuade, and Caroline Coon. (133 minutes,'80)

Some of the greatest motion pictures of all time are the "oldies but goodies".
