So what happens when you are in the mood for a romantic comedy and a horror movie shows up in its place? Also with the mail-in subscription that we had it did not always include the new releases. So if we truly wanted to see the new movies we ended up going to the dvd/video store anyway and then of course, it wasn't there and we had to wait.
Barnyard - Animated craziness set on a farm where, after sundown, the animals turn the barn into a noisy nightclub. James is Otis, a youthful cow who is very mature, much to the annoyance of his dad, Ben Elliott, who keeps watch for predatory coyotes when the others party. Dom Irrera stands out as Duke the Dog. The Beverly Hillbillies: This is a movie based on the'60's TV series. When Jed Clampett unintentionally finds oil on his rural land in Arkansas, he becomes an instant millionaire. He brings the whole Clampett kinfolk out to Beverly Hills. Being plain country folk they are victim to every money hungry con artist in the big city.
Sugar Town - Pleasurable mosaic of LA life characterizing a handful of characters whose lives join together - a musician hopeful who'll do anything to get ahead, an uptight lone lady who allures the wrong men like a magnet, and a band made up of cleaned-up '80s rock megastars, to name a few. Made on a shoestring, although sharp and well recognized; outstanding cast comprises a variety of actual musicians. Cast includes Ally Sheedy, Rosanna Arquette, John Taylor, Jade Gordon, Michael Des Barres, Lucinda Jenney, and Martin Kemp. (92 minutes,'99)
Ivan the Terrible: Continuation of the story of King Ivan IV, in which he takes on the boyars in a fight for power. Inspiring dvd is just a trace underneath its predecessor, Prohibited by Stalin due to controversial illustration of Ivan's secret patrol, and not released till'58. Cast includes Nikolai Cherkassov; Serafima Birman, Mikhail Nazvanov, Pavel Kadochnikov, and Andrei Abrikosov. (88 minutes,'46)
Solar Crisis: Futuristic sci-fi thriller with Matheson leading a save the Earth mission to the sun to stop a solar flash from annihilating the world. Fine visual effects and thrilling tale in space harmed by world pranks of poor boy Boyle who ridiculously wants to undermine the mission. Cast includes Tim Matheson, Charlton Heston, Peter Boyle, and Annabel Schofield. (112 minutes,'90)
