The Guide To Mafia Wars Rackets

By Stephen Spiers

It would appear that Zynga has decided to change the game in a rather significant way by removing the property feature and replacing it with Mafia Wars rackets. Those who started the game prior to the fall of 2009 have the old properties feature while newer players have rackets. Those players who still have the old feature will eventually be given some sort of incentive in order to get rid of it. There have been mixed reviews so far, but a lot of players are saying that they do not like the new rackets system.

How do you use the new Mafia Wars rackets system? Under the new system you can no longer buy properties and let the cash roll in, instead you have to return to the rackets at timed intervals and collect on them.

In Mafia Wars you have to "shake down" a racket and then collect your reward when the specific time has elapsed. If you do not return then the payout can be lost. This is time based and there is no listing is available yet to show you how long you have to collect, the listing in the facebook game under "Rackets-What's This?" simply says "if you don't return promptly".

Influence is required in order to shake down a racket. You receive no reload on influence when you level up, but you get one point regenerated per hour.

You will find rackets under the rackets tab and a number of other tabs breaking down the specific racket types. Cash, attack, defense and job rackets make up the different types. You will receive the specified cash or boost when you shake down each racket.

You will also get the influence back that was used when you began the shake down which you can use to do another one. If your influence level is full, this will go above that level to a maximum of 125%. You can, however, lose the influence if you are too slow collecting on the shake down. As stated earlier, if you don't return promptly you will also lose your take and the other benefits you may have received from the shake down.

You can repeat rackets to master them. Additional rackets are made available to you when you master a racket. Although rackets pay out very little initially, as you master them the payout increases.

It is not as bleak as it may seem, mastering all the rackets can increase the payout quite nicely.
